In 1517, the monastery was decorated with murals painted by the painter Vicko Lavrov of Dubrovnik.
The monastery continued to serve as the seat of the Metropolitan of Hercegovina until 1694 when it was destroyed by the Venetians. The present monastery building was built in 1924. – Bosnia and Herzegovina Places
63. Cathedral Temple of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord
The church of the holy transfiguration of God can be found in the park owned by Mr. Dučić. The church is composed of a combination of different architectural styles, particularly Roman which predates the Byzantine style. The construction of the church began in 1888 and was completed in 1908.
In addition to the church, there is a school building, which is now converted into an eparchy house. The church has been honored numerous times throughout its history. One of the most significant events was the arrival of St. Vasilije of Ostrog’s relics in 1996. His miter is still preserved in the church. – Bosnia and Herzegovina Places
64. Osman-Pašina Džamija
Built in 1726[ on the orders of the captain of the city, Osman Pasha, the Trebinje’s first and only mosque was constructed in 1726. It is situated in the old town, next to the Emperor’s mosque which is considered to be the oldest in the city. Like all the other mosques in the city, the Osman Pasha’s mosque was burned down in early 1993 during one of the Orthodox holidays in the city. This was at the same time as the expulsion of Bosnian Muslims from the region.
A first attempt to reconstruct the mosque was made in May 2001 but the project was not successful due to protests and stoning of the building by citizens of the town. The mosque was finally renovated and opened on 10 July 2005. The building was financed by the exiled people of the city. – Bosnia and Herzegovina Places
65. Trebišnjica
The TrebiѾnjica is a river located in the province of Republika Srpska and the right-hand tributary to the river Neretva. Before it was used for hydro exploitation through a variety of hydrotechnic interventions and various hydrological systems with various purposes, the river was a sinking river. It rose and sank throughout its course, reappearing at various points along the river from the river’s source to the coast.
The river is 96.5 kilometers above the ground and about 90 kilometers below the ground, making it one of the world’s longest sinking rivers, with a total of 187 kilometers above and below the ground. From a hydrological point of view, it is considered a sub-subbasin of the river basin Neretva. – Bosnia and Herzegovina Places
