The mausoleum is constructed mainly of deep red sandstone enriched with white marble.
The mausoleum at Akbar’s Tomb is situated at Sikandra, on the outskirts of Agra on the Mathura Road. It is 8 km west of the city center and 1 km northwest of the tomb.
The tomb of Mariam-us-Zamani lies about 1 km from the tomb. After Akbar’s death, his favorite wife built a large garden around the tomb and was buried there by his son. – India Places

Akbar Darwaza was formerly known as Amar Singh but it was changed to Amar Singh Gate by Shah Jahan. Amar Singh was the man who shot Salabat Khan before Shah Jahan. He then jumped with his horse but the horse died in the jump and Amar Singh was killed. Because of Amar Singh’s bravery, Shah Jahan changed the name of the Darwaza from Akbar to Amar Singh. – India Places

This area seemed to have fewer visitors than the rest of the fort, but it was quiet enough for us to enjoy a peaceful walk around the knot gardens, which are well-maintained and worth a visit in the early morning. The water features weren’t working when we visited. Cooler, too. – India Places
